About the event

June 26 Odesa hosted the biggest international half marathon in the history of the city – Odesa Half Marathon 2016. Its program included eight courses. For the first time the route of the main course – 21.0975 km – was mapped in one lap around the city. The participants started at the legendary Opera House, ran down the historic streets of the city, along the sea down the Zdorovia Track and finished downtown. The event was attended by 1,100 participants, including 150 children.

The winner among men on the course of 21.0975 km was Yurii Hrytsak, who overcame the half marathon course with the score of 1:07:34.6. His main rival were weather conditions: despite the fact that the half marathon race started at eight in the morning when the thermometer showed +20 Celsius, one hour later the temperature rose above 30 degrees.

“It was a difficult race today, it was very hot, it was hard to run on the pavement, so of course I’m happy with the result. Each victory is the victory over yourself, over your abilities. You know, when you are running for a result, you are not looking around, but I still had time to notice that the route is very scenic. I would also like to give special thanks to the organizers, everything was at the highest level, “- shared Yurii Hrytsak.

Among women on the same course, Olena Fedorova finished first and bypassed her main rival by 2 minutes. It is interesting that one month ago both Yurii and Olena were second in the INTERPIPE Dnipro Half Marathon.

The MP Yehor Sobolev and his wife, TV presenter Marichka Padalko, also overcame the half marathon course. For Marichka it is the second half marathon, and Yehor overcome this distance for the first time. The wife of the mayor of the city of Dnipro – Maryna Filatova – also ran the 21.0975 km course.

Among all participants who came to the starting line today, there were representatives of 15 countries, including the United States, Norway, the Moldovan Republic, Lithuania, Belarus, Azerbaijan and others.

“It’s nice that the first half marathon in Odesa was attended by participants from 15 countries. Today was a very difficult event because the weather is too hot, I would say extreme, but we were prepared for that. There was plenty of water, cooling points along the route, there was a shower area. I would also like to thank the mayor of Odesa Hennadii Trukhanov. Thanks to coordinated work of all city services, the event was of high quality. But am sure that next year everything will be even bigger, “- Dmytro Chernitskyi, the general manager of Run Ukraine, told the details of the event
